„Monster Hunter” to jedna z najpopularniejszych japońskich serii gier wideo, nie było więc wątpliwości, że prędzej czy później sięgnie po te opowieść Hollywood.
Główną bohaterką Monster Hunter jest porucznik Natalie Artemis ( w tej roli Milla Jovovich), dowodząca zespołem sił zbrojnych ONZ, która trafia na portal do innego świata. Odkrywają, że tajemniczą krainę zamieszkują ogromne potwory, na które polują Łowcy. Artemis i jej drużyna zostanie zmuszona do nierównej walki o przetrwanie i współpracę z grupą Łowców, aby nie dopuścić do inwazji potworów na naszą planetę.
Muzykę do filmu skomponował Paul Haslinger – austriacki muzyk i kompozytor, na stałe mieszkający w Kalifornii, absolwent Wiedeńskiej Akademii Muzycznej. W 1985 roku Haslinger dołączył do niemieckiej grupy muzycznej Tangerine Dream. W ciągu 5 lat spędzonych w zespole nagrał łącznie 15 albumów, brał udział w 4 międzynarodowych trasach koncertowych i współpracował przy wielu ścieżkach dźwiękowych, w tym Miracle Mile, Near Dark , Shy People i Miramar's Canyon Dreams w reżyserii Jana Nickmana.
Ścieżka dźwiękowa do Canyon Dreams przyniosła Haslingerowi pierwszą nominację do nagrody Grammy w 1991 roku.
