Elden Ring to gra RPG akcji autorstwa japońskiego studia FromSoftware, które za sprawą wydanego w 2009 roku Demon’ s Souls zapoczątkowało nurt nazywany soulslike - nieprzystępnych gier RPG akcji cechujących się wysokim poziomem trudności już od pierwszych minut rozgrywki.
Tym razem twórcy postanowili nawiązać współpracę ze znaną osobistością spoza branży gier wideo – pisarzem George’em R. R. Martinem, autorem sagi „Pieśń Lodu i Ognia” na podstawie której zrealizowano serial HBO „Gra o tron”.
Tak jak już to miało miejsce w trakcie tworzenia innych sztandarowych gier dewelopera – poza Dark Souls II – rolę głównego projektanta pełnił Hidetaka Miyazaki.
Od lipca 2022 roku grę sprzedano dotychczas w ponad 16 milionach kopii.
